Jason Bier
EVP, General Counsel & Chief Privacy Officer

Jason Bier is Chief Privacy Officer at Engine Group, and EVP & General Counsel of Engine Media, the network’s global media services operating unit. In his capacity as Chief Privacy Officer, Jason manages Engine Group’s global privacy initiatives and its data protection compliance program. His duties include maintaining privacy best practices, coordinating internal policy reviews, developing a Privacy by Design approach to product and system development, and negotiating agreements pertaining to data protection and privacy. Jason also manages external industry trade relations and legislative matters relating to digital media.

Jason has spent fifteen years as an attorney in the field of consumer privacy, and the last seven years leading industry self-regulation for Interest Based Advertising as a Director on the Board of the Network Advertising Initiative, and the Principles & Communications Advisory Committee of the Digital Advertising Alliance. He received the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s 2013 Service Excellence Award for his work protecting consumer privacy. 

Jason has led privacy implementations across most of the Internet Retailer 100 and major brands, including Williams-Sonoma, Gap, Foot Locker, Justice, EA Sports, Disney, Neiman Marcus, Target, Home Depot, Costco, Discover Financial Services, Walgreens, and major pharmaceutical corporations. His experience has been focused on privacy best practices for digital advertising, advising on issues ranging from privacy policy disclosures to data anonymization, ad tech infrastructure design, privacy audits, data classification and governance matters. Jason has forged new privacy models through collaborations with organizations such as Conversant, Merkle, KBM, Experian, Epsilon, Acxiom, and Google.

Jason is Founder & President of the Federation for Internet Alerts (FIA), of which Engine Group is a Partner. FIA distributes dynamic AMBER Alerts and weather warnings geographically through the Internet, and serves as a primary Alert Hub leveraging online advertising technology to provide last mile access to alerts during disasters. FIA has been awarded by the 4A’s, The Webby Awards, and Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for its work saving lives. 

Before joining Engine Group, Jason served as General Counsel & Chief Privacy Officer of Dotomi, Chief Privacy Officer of Conversant (formerly ValueClick), and partner in the law firm Bier & Gutstein. Jason is a graduate of Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and Pace University School of Law.
